Dubai SME members win government procurement contracts worth AED921.6 million

Last year, Dubai SME members won contracts worth AED921.6m via the Government Procurement Programme (GPP), up 3% from 2020.
GPP requires government entities, and establishments in which the government holds equity of 25% or more, to allocate 10% of their purchasing to members of Dubai SME. This, in turn, gives SMEs the opportunity to grow their businesses by supplying the needs of government entities.
Since 2002, the GPP has facilitated 16,934 procurement contracts worth over AED8.4b for 362 Dubai SME members. Of these, 83% of the contracts were in the commercial sector, 13% in the professional sector and four percent in the industrial sector.
Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, explained it reflected the confidence of the government and the private sector in the competencies of the local SME sector and its role in building a competitive and diversified economy, as well as the priority given by these sectors to creating more business opportunities for entrepreneurs.
Last year, the top government support agency contracts were awarded as follows:
💰 Expo 2020 Dubai: AED161.7m
💰 Roads and Transport Authority (RTA): AED95.2million
💰 Dubai Municipality (DM): AED44.2m
💰 Dubai Health Authority (DHA): AED36.5m
💰 Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA): AED24.5m.
